Fluke Thermography Training Partner Will Speak at National RESNET Conference
John Snell to Deliver Two Talks on Thermal Imaging.
John Snell, a leading expert and trainer in infrared thermal imaging technology and applications, will speak twice at the 2010 RESNET Building Performance Conference, the premier national forum on home energy ratings, residential energy efficiency financing, and building performance business development.
Snell is founder of The Snell Group, the top thermography training and certification organization. Snell has been involved in building-related training and educational services since 1977 and founded Snell Infrared in 1986.
The Snell Group is the thermography training partner for Fluke Corporation, the global leader in portable electronic test and measurement technology. Fluke is a leading manufacturer of thermal imaging cameras, designed specifically for building diagnostic applications, and exceed the proposed RESNET minimum standards for thermal imaging cameras.
Snell Group training currently exceeds all minimum requirements proposed by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET, www.natresnet.org) and Building Performance Institute (BPI, www.bpi.org). The 14 Snell Group instructors have a combined total of more than 250 years experience. Many classes from Snell Group are approved by RESNET for Continuing Education Credits (CECs).
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 includes funding to help low-income families and others weatherize their homes, and “Green Jobs” funding to train 70,000 workers in renewable energy and energy efficiency jobs. Workers are trained to inspect homes and fix the problems they find. RESNET and BPI set standards and certify the quality of such training.
Thermal imagers are essential tools for these workers. Thermal imagers help detect unexpected moisture and inadequate insulation in walls and ceilings, building defects, find air leaks in window sills and doors and identify areas of potential energy loss.
In Conference Session I, 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, Snell will speak on ‘Infrared Thermography: Getting Started Successfully.’ He will provide an overview of what the ‘thermal territory’ looks like, including details about available infrared systems, conditions required for successful use of the technology, and an understanding of the new RESNET standards related to infrared home inspections. Attendees will leave with a clear idea of whether they want to “make the leap,” and, if so, what the next steps might be.
In Conference Session 6, 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, he will explain ‘Conducting an Infrared Inspection Using the New RESNET Standard.’ The session will address the details and methodologies for conduction an infrared home inspection that are detailed in the new RESNET standard. In addition, Snell will address the two pathways to certification.
The Snell Group recently announced that two new thermography courses, a four-day Level I - Infrared for Building Applications class and a two-day IR for Weatherization and Energy Audits, both have been approved by RESNET for Continuing Education Credits (CECs).
Level I - Infrared for Building Applications, a four-day class, currently offers 32 CECs to RESNET raters who attend and successfully complete the course. It is designed for weatherization contractors, home inspectors and facility maintenance personnel who use thermal imaging to inspect residential homes and small commercial buildings.
The two-day IR for Weatherization and Energy Audits course has currently been approved for 16 CECs and is intended for energy auditors and weatherization contractors who use, or are considering adding, thermal imaging to specifically inspect residential homes. For more information on either course, as well as links to dates and online registration, please visit www.thesnellgroup.com/buildings.
