POLARIS Laboratories Awarded Contract for U.S. Military Sealift Command Fluid Analysis
POLARIS Laboratories announced today its award of a $1.3 million contract to provide oil analysis to the U.S. Military Sealift Command’s 200 plus naval ships over the next three years. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the MSC operates the Military Sealift Fleet Support Command in Norfolk, VA, where it trains, crews, equips and maintains the MSC’s government-operated ships stationed around the globe and five additional Sealift Logistics Commands that operate throughout the Atlantic, Pacific, European, Central and Far East regions worldwide.
“POLARIS is very proud of the fact that our services will be contributing to the readiness and reliability of the U.S. Military Sealift Command’s ships around the world,” said Bryan Debshaw, CEO of POLARIS Laboratories.
Created during WWII, the Military Sea and Transportation Service was renamed the Military Sealift Command during the Vietnam War and transported nearly 54 million tons of combat equipment and supplies and nearly 8 million tons of fuel to the American forces stationed there. The MSC delivered more than 12 million tons of wheeled and tracked vehicles, helicopters, ammunitions, dry cargo, fuel and other supplies and equipment during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm and continues to play a vital role in the ongoing global war on terrorism. As of July, 2008, MSC ships had delivered more than 12 billion gallons of fuel and had moved 100 million square feet of combat equipment and supplies to U.S. coalition forces engaged in operations Enduring Freedom and Iraq Freedom.
Unlike other U.S. Naval ships, the Military Sealift Command’s workforce is made up of more than 9,000 civilians, 80% of whom serve at sea. The MSC’s vision is to support the United States military by delivering supplies and conducting specialized missions across the world’s oceans as it strives to be the leader in innovative and cost-effective maritime solutions.
