Before You Implement a Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Program…
Reliability studies show that up to 80% of RCM efforts fail to produce the desired sustainable outcomes.
It may be hard to see around corners and fully understand what roadblocks may hurt your RCM effort so why not learn from what others have done before you?
1) You can try to Google the term however you will get millions of results and most want to sell you software or maintenance services
2) You can join online forums at MaintenanceForums.com, LinkedIn and others to post questions or to just follow current discussions
3) You can join associations for maintenance professionals and network with others who have been there- done that (Maintenance.org, SMRP.org)
4) You can buy RCM Books and Training DVDs - search Amazon.com or MRO-Zone.com
5) You can attend conferences that cover RCM - some are held by vendors (Ivara, Meridium etc…) and others are broader and more RCM Neutral (MaintenanceConference.com)
6) You can read articles and case studies online (Reliabilityweb.com and UptimeMagazine.com) to educate yourself
The point is that there is a world of knowledge AND experience out there and you should take advantage of those who are willing to share their RCM journey.
It will save you a lot of time and grief.
