Bump Test

November 18, 2011
(Vibration Analysis)

If you suspect that a natural resonance condition exists in your machine at some running speed attained with a VFD, and you don’t have the resources to perform a startup/coastdown test or a means to do any formal modal tests, you might try a quick “bump” test.

The “bump” test is a useful vibration analysis technique to help identify resonance frequencies in a machine’s structure.
