Dirty Grease Guns

February 10, 2010
(Lubrication)

Most untrained grease gun operators do not wipe the grease gun coupling and grease nipple clean with a lint free cloth, before and after greasing each lubrication point.  Bearings are precision devices manufactured in laboratory clean ‘white rooms,’ They will perform poorly and will rapidly fail if injected with dirt from a dirty grease gun coupler.

  • I suspect that many trained operators also do not wipe the coupling between applications. People need to know what to do and CARE enough to do it. This makes a good case for grease systems or "Perma-Lube" types of lubricators that limit exposure to dirty grease gun couplers.
