Maintenance Work Priority
There appears to be consistency in the misuse of the “priority” field in CMMS systems.
To remove the emotional component from the process of assigning work priority, it is imperative to establish a system for determining each priority code.
There should be a clear definition for what the priority represents in regard to work execution timing and the nature of the event.
Environmental, health, safety, risk, and production impact as well as preventive maintenance activities are some of the major considerations in developing a meaningful system. Establishing a reference chart and ensuring its use will ease tension in planning and scheduling meetings.
